There was no rescue skiff on scene as required by OSHA. No horn blasts from ship warned of imminent collision. The ship departed despite dire electrical problems, illegal at any time and even more highly unusual in the cold, dark night-time (part #94, first ‘after-sundown departure’ in two years). The problem is the new FSK is 46 feet taller, and that puts the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in serious jeopardy for similar take-down by DEW because it has only 186 feet of clearance (it has one-foot more clearance than the original FSK bridge).

The FSK bridge was taken down with Directed Energy Weapons because it was too short with too-narrow footings that limited cargo vessel size and traffic, and it could not be physically altered for cheaper than a take-down + replacement.

It is reasonably expected that an explosion or similar “collision” will also ‘destroy’ or take-down the Chesapeake Bay Bridge within the next few years, necessitating its replacement with a taller bridge to allow bigger cargo ships.
