“Green” Hoax — “Green” Farce — “Green” Trick — Cheap Products Made Worse On Purpose, To Fail Sooner — The Lightbulb Conspiracy 2024 – Phoebus cartel (still exists) limited lifetime, caused incompatibilities, designed to fail — Planned Obsolescence

The Lightbulb Conspiracy

Livermore California, home of longest-burning lightbulb in world…burning continuously since 1901, already outlasted two webcams.  Was 100 years old in 2001.

The “lightbulb conspiracy” refers to the Phoebus cartel, a notable example of planned obsolescence. Planned obsolescence is a business strategy in which the obsolescence (the process of becoming obsolete—that is, unfashionable or no longer usable) of a product is planned and built into it from its conception. This is done by the manufacturer to encourage consumers to purchase the next upgrade or replacement sooner than if the product were designed for a longer lifespan.

The Phoebus cartel, established in the 1920s, involved major lightbulb manufacturers, including Osram, Philips, and General Electric, agreeing to artificially limit the lifespan of lightbulbs to 1,000 hours. The aim was to increase sales by reducing the time between lightbulb replacements. Before the formation of the cartel, lightbulbs had lifespans of up to 2,500 hours or more. The cartel’s activities were a classic example of planned obsolescence, and it has been criticized for promoting waste and hindering technological advancements in longer-lasting lightbulbs.

The term “lightbulb conspiracy” sometimes also refers to broader discussions about planned obsolescence in various industries, where companies might design products with a limited useful life or intentionally slow down older models through software updates, compelling consumers to buy newer models more frequently. Critics of planned obsolescence argue that it leads to increased waste and environmental damage, contributes to a culture of excessive consumption, and imposes unnecessary costs on consumers.

In recent years, there has been a pushback against planned obsolescence, with calls for more sustainable product designs, longer warranties, and the right to repair legislation that allows consumers to fix their products instead of replacing them. These efforts aim to reduce waste, save consumers money, and lessen the environmental impact of consumer goods.

Ghandi — World is big enough to satisfy everyone’s need but will always be too small to satisfy individual greed.

Singles out EPSON ink-jet printer as having a chip that counts printings and disables the printer after 18,000 pages have been printed; an absorbent sponge is soaked at that point.  Instead of offering replacement sponge and way to reset the counter, the ‘business design’ of ‘planned obscolescence’ is to require purchase of a whole new printer.  EPSON, like all major manufacturers, is guilty scum.  Corporations are inescapably psychopathic by nature; they are required by law to maximize profits for their shareholders by any and all means possible.  Wrongdoing, immorality is inextricably built-in to this “behavior” which weighs doing what’s right vs doing another wrong by the legal and business costs.  Corporations are in some severe manners anti-life, anti-human, anti-Christ.
