Convenience and CoinciDUNCE of Plane Crashes
Speaking of snow days…does anyone else remember the day there was a Metro crash and a plane crash? It was January 13, 1982. The crashes were tragic enough. Compounding it was that OPM director Donald Devine waited waaay too long before dismissing federal employees. As the snow was knee deep and falling fast, everyone I talked to was just baffled as to why he kept the government open. Does anyone else remember that?
I’ve not been able to find the names of the 3 victims who were killed in the same-day crash of the Metro train … that has always bugged me. 8 people from Fairchild electronic cellular engineering team were wiped out on Palm 90, seemingly giving leading edge to Motorola in cellular comms development…pretty sure that changed the course of history. Reminds of Sherman Skolnick reporting on the crash (takedown?) of United 553 over Chicago that wiped out 11 persons involved with Watergate; or Colgan 3407 that wiped out Bev Eckert (shut her up!); or the convenient crashes of Senator Wellstone plane (allowed PATRIOT ACT to pass), Hale Boggs plane (allowed Alaskan Oil Pipeline), and so many others…JFK Jr. (shut down his ‘George” thing and other plans). CoinciDUNCEs are incredibly interesting.
