“Why did you pick Catholicism?” — “The Eucharist.”
She says it at 1:19 into https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dROCOCt4nU
The Eucharist is the central Catholic rite of Communion: bread and wine consecrated during Mass and received by believers.
Catholics hold that, through consecration, the bread and wine truly become Christ’s body and blood—while retaining their outward appearance. This is called transubstantiation. Many Protestants instead see Communion chiefly as symbolic or spiritual rather than a literal change.
Someone might say it is a reason to become Catholic because they find persuasive or moving the Catholic claim that:
- Jesus is uniquely and really present in the sacrament, not only remembered.
- The practice continues the Last Supper: “This is my body… this is my blood.”
- The early Church treated Communion with profound realism and reverence.
- Mass offers a tangible, recurring encounter with God and connection to the historic Church.
So the claim is usually devotional and theological: if one comes to believe the Catholic teaching is true, receiving the Eucharist can seem like an exceptionally strong reason to join the Church.
Eucharist it is claimed by Catholica as sacramental, not cannibalism.
Cannibalism ordinarily means physically consuming human flesh. Catholic teaching says Christ becomes truly present in the Eucharist, but not as ordinary biological tissue to be torn, killed, or digested; the bread-and-wine appearances remain. It is understood as a mystical participation in Christ’s one sacrifice, not eating a human being in the ordinary sense.
Critics have long made the cannibalism comparison because the language is intentionally stark—“body” and “blood.” Whether one accepts the distinction depends on whether one accepts the sacramental framework.
