Lots of TWA people

This is the more interesting part. Public summaries report 20 off-duty TWA employees onboard,
in addition to the 18 operating crew. That means roughly:

  • 38 TWA people total
  • 16.5% of everyone aboard
  • 20 off-duty/non-working employees among 212 passengers = ~9.4% That is noticeable. The standard explanation is that many were deadheading / positioning crew for the Paris–Rome continuation or other assignments. That is plausible: airlines routinely move crews as passengers. But yes, in a disaster manifest it creates a striking cluster.

Not enough, by itself, to say “targeted.” But enough to justify asking:

  • Was this number normal for that route/date?
  • Were those employees mostly deadheading crew, non-rev personal travel, or reassigned last-
    minute?
  • Did the passenger load include unusual last-minute swaps/cancellations?
  • Were any specific TWA personnel operationally significant? The employee concentration is operationally explainable, but still worth flagging as an anomaly unless benchmarked against normal TWA 800 loads.
