Portuguese here. We have power in Porto, and in some parts of Lisbon. Right from the start (11:30) people went right away to the groceries. They got the day off, so, imediatly went on a shopping spree. Let the wise learn and act upon this event . Keep portable lights, battery / crank radio, fuel and a pre schedule meeting point. We lost our cellphone service a couple hours after the blackout. Don’t take cellphones for granted. If you really like to be prepared, you can have a cb radio in your family cars or one at the house, and other on the car. ALSO, a lot of people bought a lot of coal, to make barbecues. Keep a small camping stove with gas cans, that is very essential. And of course, canned goods, toilet paper, essentials, etc. Little towns where old people live, are best to find supplies, as these people tend to catch up later, due to not using tech. Besides, a lot of the younger people / working people, are in the bigger cities working. Takes time for them to reach little towns. YES, our water system still worked, because…we live in a house, not a building. Buildings need water pumps to supply the apartments. Lastly, and quite evidently today, if you’re thinking something, for example: “i better go shopping now, before a lot of people take everything”, then, realize that, some people are already thinking like you. That’s the reality. If you aren’t prepared, you either get supplies right from the start of the event, or you’ll have to deal with a mess, possibly, having little supplies until the event stops. And remember, a lot of things can take down the power grid. A solar flare, an earthquake, cyber attack, conventional attack, maybe even a dam going down in pieces, extreme heat or cold, and so on. Alright, lesson learned, now act on it. Peace.
